I ARRIVED WITH ONE SUITCASE A Woman’s Journey
With Guest Speaker Julijana Griffiths
The Migration Heritage Project is pleased to host Julijana Griffiths as our AGM guest speaker on Saturday, 2 December 2023, commencing at 10.15am, in the Mercury Gallery at the Wollongong Art Gallery, corner of Kembla and Burelli Streets, Wollongong.
Julijana Griffiths will speak on her photographic exhibition which tells the story of her mother’s journey from Northern Greece to Australia as a Proxy bride.
Wollongong Art Gallery is holding an exhibition of Julijana Griffiths’ photographs that interprets her mother’s story who, in 1959, at the age of 20 with nothing but a photograph of the man who was a stranger to her but was to marry and one suitcase to her name, she began a journey that would test her. A journey experienced by many women from different nationalities.
Julijana Griffiths is a freelance photographer based in Wollongong. Come listen to the as she explains her mother’s journey depicted in each of the photographs on exhibition. A unique experience where you can hear what part of her mother’s journey inspired each photograph.
After Julijana’s presentation a short Q & A, moderated by Franca Facci, MHP Chairperson, will be held where you can ask questions of Julijana or share your own family experiences.
The event is free but bookings are essential.
