Created in partnership with Wollongong Library for History Week 2024, an exhibition of forty images showing life of Illawarra’s migrant settlers and refugees from diverse cultural backgrounds is available for viewing at the Wollongong City Library, on level 1.
The photos from private collections held by the Migration Heritage Project capture the life and times of a number of migrant groups that migrated to Wollongong after WWII and the stories behind them form an integral part of Wollongong’s history.
There is also a small collection of objects that were brought to Australia by migrants as well as some items from Balgownie/Fairy Meadow Hostel that form part of the exhibition and can also be viewed at the library.
The exhibition can be viewed in person at The Lab, Level 1 Wollongong Library, 41 Burelli St Wollongong or online at on the Wollongong Library website at: Illawarra Images
The are many more photographs that capture Illawarra’s migrant history on the MHP website Image Gallery from the link below:
The exhibition runs from 9 September 2024 to 23 November 2024.
